Arts
At Lyndon Academy, the halls are filled with color and sounds of music daily. This private international school has invested heavily in the arts and will continue to do so in an effort to promote arts in education. The study and performance of the arts is an academic area that supports high levels of critical thinking and character development and it is an important part of the curriculum.
All students learn techniques, styles, genres, and the history of artists in both the visual and musical arts. The halls are filled with the visual art works from Junior Kindergarten and above. What children are able to accomplish in formal art classes is nothing short of amazing. In music classes, they study history, choral music and musical instruments. They begin to learn to read music and play instruments as early as first grade.
The performing arts for our lower and middle school are also incredible. Students take part in two required formal concerts annually. While the spring concert theme varies from year to year, the winter concert is traditionally filled with holiday pieces from different countries and religions from all around the world. They sing in three parts and blend voice with instruments. Fifth grade students play guitars, and middle school students show off their talents in percussion and prepare for drumline competitions for the 2013-14 scholastic year.
Lyndon continues to support art programs that run in the after-school hours as well. Second grade students and above have the option to perform in the theatre arts. Drama Club for both the lower school and middle school students is the most popular club. They work diligently rehearsing their lines for two performances annually. Fourth grade students and above have the opportunity join a rock band in Lyndon’s after-school School of Rock Program. Students across a variety of grades opt for private instrumental lessons after school as well.
