Curriculum

At Lyndon Academy the curriculum is modeled after Massachusetts and New York State curricula. Why model after these two states? Good question.

The curriculum is well established, proven and the founder, Linda Murdock, of Lyndon Academy has worked with it for over 35 years. Statistics don't lie, so why not use something that works? The curriculum from each of these states respectively is some of the oldest in the nation, and year after year these two states have sent a higher percentage of students on to college than the rest.

What makes Lyndon Academy's curriculum unique? Linda Murdock has added an international flavor, made it more challenging, and adapted the curriculum to a 21st century style of teaching. It is designed to put the world at your fingertips.

At Lyndon the approach is more individualized. A teacher and a student together are responsible for following the curriculum. They must work together to meet the standards required by the Academy. However, how they get there is entirely up to them.

Examples of our student's work. The basic performance standards of Massachusetts and New York are advanced one year to students all the way through 7th grade. The trilingual elementary program is the only one of its kind in the State of Georgia. In addition to global academics, the students are well versed in technology starting at the Pre-K level. Eighth grade students will be introduced to an enriched upper school preparation program that prepares them for college entrance exams and a successful high school career. Upper school students will be encouraged to pursue a major that reflects their career interests. Students entering middle school will be trilingual and also encouraged to pursue an International Baccalaureate Diploma in upper school.

This progressive, accelerated, and individualized curriculum is designed to nurture the spirit as well as stimulate the mind. The joy of learning is as important as mastering the task. Through an interdisciplinary approach, we teach students to play an active role in their own education, to learn how to ask the right questions and make pertinent connections and decisions, and to be a global citizen. The standards and expectations challenge students to do their best in an accepting and compassionate setting which encourages each student to be an individual.
